Raw Brass

Devon's No.1 Session Horn Section

Raw Brass are a 4 pc Horn section available for performance and recording.

Horn Section Leader - Josh

Josh Westrip (The guy with the bent trumpet)

Raw Brass was Josh’s brain child as a university project back in 2015. He has since organised the section on countless occasions for sessions in Devon based recording studios, including the writing/arranging of parts, and now runs sessions as the owner at Rawcus Studios. Josh plays regularly for festival bands, functions and musical theatre productions.

The combination of Horn player and Studio engineer guarantees you some of the best sound horn tracks out there.

Alex ‘Soul Machine’ Lloyd

Alex is a saxophonist, arranger, composer and producer (Hear his compositions recorded at Rawcus Studios with Dayton Grey). A die-hard soul fan, Alex has written arrangements for such iconic soul artists as the Chairmen of the Board and the Drifters, and as a saxophone player some of his credits include British Jazz composer Mike Westbrook and members of the legendary Motown studio band the Funk Brothers. He specialises in tenor and baritone saxophone and regularly performs and records as part of the Raw Brass Horn Section.

Isaac Winyard

Isaac’s regular playing covers a fusion of genres including Funk, Soul, Reggae and Afrobeat. With his busy calendar playing with The Blu Funk Allstars, Hifi Lofi and covering some of the UK’s hottest festivals with Barefoot Bandit, Issac has a love for foot stomping horn lines.

With the tonal velocity of a full trombone section, rumour has it he has the power assemble the Viking Hordes with a single note.

Jon ‘Butterfly Fingers’ Dyer

Jon Dyer is an experienced performer and musician based in Devon. His interest in music began at a very young age, and he quickly found himself performing all across the UK. Jon is the flautist in inventive folk band Gadarene, as well as being involved in many other bands and projects. Since gaining his Music Performance degree from Falmouth University, Jon has been working for Wren Music as a community musician, leading a variety of ensembles, workshops and community projects. Jon’s tricksy, high-energy flute playing can charm a butterfly at 6 feet, adding a unique layer to the Raw Brass Horn Section.

Raw Brass work as both a section and on our own individual projects, here's a selection of things we've worked on together and individually.
