Why an Audiobook? Why now?
Audiobook sales in the UK have seen double-digit growth year on year, with listeners embracing the convenience of audio content during commutes, workouts, and daily routines. While physical books and eBooks remain strong, audiobooks appeal to a distinct new audience—often younger, more digitally engaged, and consuming more books annually than traditional readers.
“Voice Confrontation Phenomenon”
Deciding whether or not to narrate your own audiobook is difficult. Ever heard the phrase “No-one likes the sound of their own voice”?
This is very common amongst narrators, vocalists…well, just about everyone. Your voice sounds different to you than it does to everyone else!
If you’re unsure if you want to narrate your book or find someone else to record it. You can book a free 30 minutes aession with us to get a feel for the process, and hear back how your voice will sound.
Once settled and into the swing of things, most people break though this worry and can find it quite a confidence boosting, liberating experience.

Is it expensive?
What is the Process?
Immortalising your written work in audio does not have to break the bank. Though it is a process that takes time (but not a long as writing it). Contrary to many quotes you may find on the internet, this does not need to cost £2000-£4000! Infact, it is possible to get your project completed around the £600-£800 mark.
The process for taking your book from paper to Audible:
Recording – In the studio with an engineer. The engineer will be reading along with you, and will call out any parts you need to record again before moving on.
Editing – Once the book is fully recorded, any re-recorded parts will be edited into place. Any coughs and splutters will be removed.
Mastering – This prepares the Audio files for submission to ACX (distributing to Audible, Spotify and Apple). This includes making your voice sound as good as possible, and formatting the audio files correctly.
Proofing – You book will then be proofed to triple check there have been no editing errors.
ACX Quality Control – Each Chapter will be submitted to ACX for an initial Quality control.
Thats it! Your Audiobook will be ready to be submitted!
Is it Easy?
Recording an audiobook at Rawcus Studios could not be simpler.
- You don’t need any technical knowledge of recording.
- You don’t need to understand submission formats to pass ACX quality control.
All you need is a voice, and a great book! We’ll take care of the rest!
Who will read my Audio Book?
There are 2 options when it comes to Audiobook narration.
Narrating it Yourself
Nothing brings an audio book to life more than the author reading it themselves. There is a connection with the content that brings any story, Fact or Fiction, to life.
Reading the book yourself is also a cheaper option that hiring a narrator to come in to record your book.
Hiring Voice Talent
Hiring a Narrator is a fantastic way of adding to your audio book if you are less confident speaking, or are looking for someone to bring Characters to life with more expressive voice acting for characters.
This way of recording can be quite steeply more expensive, but is worth while if it fits your budget and vision for the project.
